Complaint Responses
Most of our complaints are filed agaisnt the Texas prison system (Texas Department of Criminal Justice, or TDCJ) concerning violence in Texas prisons. This tool allows you to view response rates for prison systems or individual facilities. Only those prison systems where we have filed complaints about at least fifteen incidents are shown. The number of incidents is shown (in parentheses) beside the facility name (expand the selector list by clicking on the arrow beside an agency name to see individual facilities).
Note on numbers: TPI documented incidents may include more than one count of a type of incident. An example would be seven counts of mistreatment, which if related may be considered seven counts of one incident. One TPI complaint letter to an agency would address the incident, meaning in that example, one complaint letter would cover seven counts of mistreatment. All the data presented on this page is based on counts of incidents, not counts of letters. Thus one complaint letter may concern several incident counts, and one response letter may address several incident counts.
